The goal of the project is to achieve impact at scale, in terms of agricultural livelihoods; a resilient rural economy; and environmental restoration. The project will focus investments on small-scale farmers and will also work with large-scale farmers (e.g., coffee and sugarcane) to influence practices on their land. The project will work to stimulate economic opportunities for farmers and farmworkers, built on productive landscapes and improved ecosystem services. Part of this goal is to create job opportunities for youth in agricultural production, landscape restoration, and rural enterprise.
▪ At least 7,000 ha are improved by WSA practices and environmental restoration interventions. (Evidence will include the use of cover crops, increased perennial vegetative cover, and improved water resources (flows and water quality.)
Official employment figures demonstrate a significant improvement in rural employment in the project landscape, compared to similar territories in western El Salvador.
PPI scores for most families and farmworkers surveyed have improved, compared to baseline (2018).
The project will create social and political capital to scale up and institutionalize agricultural landscape restoration, at national and regional scales. Part of the efforts to scale includes research (e.g., monitoring WSA metrics), providing recommendations for public policies and investments, producing policy and scientific publications, and participation in national and international meetings and events to exchange learning and share results and impacts of the project.
▪ A dynamic network of local organizations and social enterprises lead the planning and implementation of agricultural restoration with field activities, fully funded with non-HGBF funds from multiple sources, including farmers, cooperatives, local and national government programs, NGOs, and external donors.
The design and principles of the project will be replicated nationally and internationally. The evidence will include direct references to the project by those responsible for and implementers of the project (e.g., governments, NGOs, researchers, etc.)
